November 23 – ROME – The Rockies’ Public Fishing and Recreation Area, located near Rome, is widely recognized as a beautiful place for a weekend adventure. Outdoor adventurers in Georgia planning a camping trip or wanting to use the area’s shelter or lodge can, starting December 1, make their reservations prior to arrival – either online, with the Go app. Outdoors GA, either by phone, according to the Wildlife Division of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources.
Using the reservation system for Rocky Mountain Recreation and PFA will allow visitors to make reservations up to 13 months in advance of their desired visit date and ensure they have a secure location prior to travel. This reservation system allows Rocky Mountain to become consistent with the system used in other state PFAs offering campgrounds.
The campground consists of 36 sites with electric / water connection ($ 30 / night for single sites, $ 60 / night for double sites). In addition, there are nine tent-only sites ($ 12 / night, no electricity or water). The campsite has a sanitary block with toilets and showers, a playground and a beach. Rocky Mountain is located in northwest Georgia, near the Chattahoochee National Forest, on 5,000 acres of Oglethorpe Power Corporation land. The area includes two recreational lakes totaling 559 acres, with largemouth bass and sunfish being the most common game fish species. Visitors might have the opportunity to see white-tailed deer, turkeys or waterfowl that frequent the area. The lakes, with the backdrop of forested ridges, provide visitors with a picturesque and relaxed setting to enjoy fishing, hunting, picnics, hiking, camping and other outdoor activities.
Rocky Mountain Recreation and PFA are open from sunrise to sunset daily. A $ 5 parking pass is required to visit the area (not included in camping or shelter / lodge fees).
