The Idaho Department of Fish and Game will be heading to the ponds and lakes of the Magic Valley this month with its “Take Me Fishing” trailer.

Take Me Fishing Trailer Days is a great way for anyone looking for a new activity to do during the summer or for anyone wanting to learn how to fish.

Not only is the event free, anyone who attends is not required to have a fishing license, while outside of the event anyone over the age of 14 is required to have one. .

The trailer is fully equipped with poles, tackle and bait for those who want to show up and participate. Equipment rental is free, although it is on a first-come, first-served basis.

Fish and Game staff members will be there to help kids and adults learn the basics of fishing, whether you’re new to the activity or need a refresher.

With the trailer circulating in July, it aligns perfectly with the agency’s restocking schedule.

“It’s a great way to teach kids to fish,” said avid angler Steve Gobel of Twin Falls. Gobel is a proponent of restocking lakes and streams with fish.

According to its website, the agency stocks nearly 31,000 catchable size rainbow trout throughout July, with Lake Cleveland having the largest stock at 5,000 trout.

The Take Me Fishing trailer will be at Lake Cleveland on Saturday, July 30, making it the perfect place to take part in the Take Me Fishing event.

Fishing stocked rainbow trout, especially in community ponds, is a great way to introduce new anglers to the sport using simple (and relatively economical) setups like worm/marshmallow combos or bait commercial like Power Bait or Crave, either near the bottom or under a bobber,” Fish and Game states in its storage schedule.

All scheduled fishing events will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
