Ronald Flynn Obituary (1933 – 2022) – Bridgewater, MA


Ronald F. Flynn, 88, of Mashpee, formerly of Scituate, MA, and Bowdoinham, ME, passed away peacefully March 26, 2022 at Cape Cod Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of the late Jacqueline (Lally) Flynn with whom he shared 31 wonderful years of marriage.
Ron was born April 22, 1933 to the late Helen (Ryan) Flynn and George Flynn, in Brighton, MA. He grew up in Natick, MA, and attended Natick High School. After graduation, he served his country honorably in the United States Army. He then earned his bachelor’s degree from UMASS Amherst. Ron had a long career in the liquor industry as District General Manager for Hiram Walker. After retiring, he became a successful cranberry grower.
Ron has served his community and volunteered his time and resources throughout his life. He was a member of his local American Legion, helping veterans. He founded several local charity events, including the Jimmy Fund Celebrity Cup at Sugarloaf Mountain as well as the Scituate Chapter of the Special Olympics, where he served as president. Ron was a man of faith and a devoted member of the Catholic Church.
Ron had a wide range of hobbies and interests, to say the least. He was athletic and played Division 1 hockey in college. He was a nature lover and an outdoorsman. In the winter, he enjoyed skiing and snowmobiling. Ron’s favorite place was the ocean, where he could be found catching clams, fishing, lobstering, and hauling in giant bluefin tuna. He was a sports enthusiast and always made sure to take the time to watch his favorite New England teams. Ron was eager to try new things, like woodworking, beekeeping, gardening, winemaking, and any unique activity that piqued his interest. He was a gourmet cook and loved to entertain. More than anything, Ron loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, who knew him as their “Pa Cheese”. Ron will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Ron is survived by his children, daughter Annemarie Finn, and husband Gerry, of Mashpee, MA, son Robert Flynn, and wife Cheryl, of Alexandria, VA, son Dr. Joseph Flynn, and wife April, of Louisville, KY , son John Flynn, and wife, Holly, of Louisville, KY, son James Flynn, and wife, Janice, of Grayslake, IL, daughter Veronica Frati, and husband Stephen, of Wasilla, AK, and son Matthew Flynn, of Mashpee, MA; his beloved grandchildren, Elizabeth, Patrick and his wife Gunjan, Daniel, Lauren, Margaret and her husband Robert, Samantha, Joseph, Abigail, Ryan, Logan, Morgan, Shannon, Molly, John and Sarah; his great-grandson, Niall; his sister, Catherine Novak, and her husband, William, of Natick, MA; brothers Raymond Flynn, and his wife, Mary, of Medfield, MA, and Richard Flynn, and his wife Mary, of Northampton, MA; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members and dear friends. Ron was predeceased by his wife, Jacqueline Flynn, his son Ronald Flynn, his grandson, Christian Frati, his brother the Reverend Robert Flynn, his sister Helen Reynolds, and her husband, Walter, and his sister Jean Jacqueline Casali, and her husband Guillaume.
Visiting hours will be Wednesday, March 30, 2022, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Chapman Funerals and Cremations, 74 Algonquin Ave. (RTE 151), in Mashpee. A funeral mass will be celebrated Thursday, March 31, 2022 at 12:00 p.m. at Christ the King Parish, 5 Jobs Fishing Rd., Mashpee. A burial will follow immediately at 1:45 p.m. at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne. The family kindly encourages everyone attending Ron’s services to wear a mask.

Due to the season of Lent, flowers are discouraged in the church. In lieu of flowers, donations in Ron’s memory may be made to the Ronald F. and Jacqueline J. Flynn Memorial Scholarship Fund c/o Cape Cod 5 Bank, 171 Falmouth Road, Hyannis, MA 02601.
