The veterans are aiming for a win this weekend in the War Heroes on the Water fishing tournament, but were first kicked out by a parade of boats on Saturday night around Newport Harbor.

The fourth annual sport fishing competition began in 2018 when LoanDepot founder and CEO Anthony Hseih decided to host a tournament after taking seven veterans on a fishing trip to Cabo San Lucas. meant for them.

The tournament usually takes place in August, but took place in October in 2020 and 2021 due to COVID-19.

This is only the second time the competition has featured a parade of boats, which first emerged as a way to engage the Newport Beach community without creating a large rally to avoid transmission of the coronavirus.

The tournament raises money for veteran support programs across the country and this year’s tournament is expected to be the largest yet, with around 100 veterans participating.
