Joseph Clyde Thompson

Joseph Clyde Thompson of Bedford, died on Tuesday, February 8, 2022, at the age of 91. He was born in Franklin County on January 27, 1931, to the late William Moorman Thompson and Delia Fielder Thompson. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sisters, Frances Robertson, Pearl Thompson and Mary Updike; and his brothers, Edward Thompson, William Thompson and Jack Thompson.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years, Marie Kendrick Thompson of Bedford; his daughters, Teresa Selove (David) of Centerville and Kathy Ramyar (Kami) of Mint Hill, North Carolina; son, Greg Thompson of Bedford; grandson, Ryan Selove of Chantilly; sister, Annie Lee branch of Reidsville, NC; sister-in-law, Louise Thompson of Hardy; several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Our father, variously known as Joe, Clyde and JC, worked for Rubatex and Babcock & Wilcox, retiring in 1993. He served four years in the Air Force and was honorably discharged in July 1956, after achieving the rank of Airman First Class. (A1C). He was a quartermaster of VFW Post 2157 for many years, a life member of Moose Lodge, and a member of Main Street United Methodist Church. He enjoyed working in his vegetable patch, mowing his lawn, fixing anything that needed fixing, helping family, friends and neighbors, going trout fishing, listening to country/bluegrass music and going to Elks Lodge dances in recent years. . He loved his wife and family above all else and was a good friend to many. We will miss him!

In lieu of flowers, all are invited to make a memorial contribution to Main Street United Methodist Church, PO Box 505, Bedford, VA 24523, or the National D-Day Memorial Foundation, PO Box 77, Bedford, VA 24523.

A funeral service will be held at the Chapel of Updike Funeral Home, Bedford at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, February 15, 2022, with the Reverend Wayne Murphy officiating. The family will meet their friends from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. before the service. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery.
