Transylvania County

Transylvania County is on the South Carolina - North Carolina border and is surrounded by Haywood, Henderson and Jackson counties.  Brevard and Rosman are the two major towns within the county.  The Blue Ridge Parkway runs along the north western edge of the county.

Stocked Waters

French Broad River (junction of the west and north forks to US 276 bridge)(22 miles)*good river to float in raft or canoe.

East Fork French Broad River (Glady Fork to French Broad River)(5 miles)

Middle Fork French Broad River (entire river)(4 miles)

West Fork French Broad River (S.R. 1312 and S.R. 1309 intersection to junction of west and north forks)(7 miles)*only about 3 miles on public land, easy access via Silverstein Rd.

Wild Trout Waters

Whitewater River (downstream from Silver Run Creek to South Carolina state line)(6 miles)

Looking Glass Creek (entire creek)*lots of small fish, Looking Glass Falls is a major tourist attraction during the summer.

Avery Creek (entire stream)(2 miles)*small and tight but good place to get away from the crowds on the Davidson.

South Mills River (entire river)*lower section posted and upper reaches difficult to access.   Remaining parts are some of the better fishing in NC.  Abuntant hatches of insects throughout the summer months.

North Fork French Broad River (game lands section above S.R. 1326)*tough terrain, should not be fished alone.

Catch and Release Fly Fishing Only Waters

Davidson River (headwaters to Avery Creek, excluding Avery Creek, Looking Glass Creek, and Grogan Creek)(19 miles)*only about 8 miles of this is really fishable, some tough fishing due to the crowds but some large trout also.  Trout Unlimited ranks this as one of the top 100 streams in the US.  Big crowds and smart fish.Click here for map!
