Smallmouth Bass fishing here in western NC and eastern TN can be incredible!!
On this page we'll share some of our knowledge of the local smallie rivers
and streams along with what to catch them on!
For the flyrodder our river smallmouth
action here in western NC and eastern TN, usually runs from early June till
late September. Great summer action, when the trout streams are getting
warm and low.

Flies
Here's a small selection of flies that will catch smallies!
No use getting fancy with smallie flies. Lots of great flies out
there that will catch fish, the trick is finding how they want them presented.

Equipment
Like anything else in life, everyone has their own opinions.
Below are some suggestions, these work well for us here in WNC!
|
Rod -
6 weight 9 foot flyrod is ideal. This allows you to throw big flies
and punch through the wind
|
Reel -
The reel is not that important but large arbor reels help pick up line quickly
which can really help
|
Line -
For poppers and sliders a floating line work great, I like to use 7 weight
line on my 6 weight.
|
Leader
/ Tippet - Stout stiff leaders work great, I like short 6-8 foot leaders
with 3 pound test tippet
