McDowell County is surrounded by Buncombe, Rutherford, Burke, Avery, Mitchell and Yancey County. Marion and Old Fort are the two major towns within the county. The Blue Ridge Parkway skirts the north western edge of the county.

This page will try and help you locate public fishing locations. Western North Carolina has many miles of fishable trout waters, wnctrout.com will try to give you an edge on finding these locations. Most, if not all, of the locations will be either NC Gamelands, National Forest Property or Great Smoky Mountains National Park property. Most of these locations have been taken from the current NC Regulations Digest, we'll try to put personal note on the streams we have fished in the last year or so.
