Breaking in the new fly rod
01/26/11 at 6:21pm

My new fly rod came today and I just had to head down to the neighborhood pond to try it out.  So far, I like it.  It will get the real test on the trout stream tomorrow.

Thanks Scott, great service from your shop.  That is where I purchased my new rod.  It is a bit more refined than my TFO pro series, but I do love that rod very much.

A few small bass.

There are, in fact, believe it or not, a very few trout dumb enough to be caught by me.

The only reason why you caught the small bass is the small fly choice IMO. I find if I use big huge flies, only big boys stuff it in. I throw awefully large frog flies that I have owned for almost a decade. The fly in this picture has caught more bass than any fly I throw. I caught five the night of this picture all in the last minutes before the sun went down. He is not a monster, but this pond has yet to show me the biggest one. I fish it here and there so I assume there is one or two in it that go 5+ pounds considering it is about half acre maybe less. 5 foot deep max. There was a dead one out there last year that was every bit of 5 lbs
