Hey Guys...
I'm a new member and this thread is made for me.
We live down on the Gulf Coast of Alabama (what we call LA for Lower Alabama). I've fished from pontoon boats on some guided trips (out west...not in Carolina) and love them. I feel stable etc. I'm not a small guy (prbably 275...on a good day

) and these kayaks that everybody uses down here just scare me to death. The pontoon boats are so much more stable.
My question is this: How hard are they to paddle/handle in still water. Down here, so much of my fishing is in saltwater or stillwater. My kayak buddies think I'm crazy to consider a pontoon boat but maybe that's just because they don't see many of them down here. On the other hand, maybe you don't see many of them down here for a reason!
I'll give you an example of how I would use one. I'm a tarpon nut (if that's not redundant) and we get a good run of them off the beach in June. Many times in June it's flat calm (particularly in the mornings). I'd love to have a pontoon boat to launch before work. I wouldn't have to paddle but 50 yards or so out to the first sandbar.
Plus, there's some really good farm ponds around that I'd like to explore.
Does a pontoon boat sound like it would be functional for things like this? (My kayak buddies tell me the wind and tides would play hell on a pontoon boat vs. a "yak".)
How do ya'll see it?
Great site by the way.
