Catch and Release Artificial Lures Only


This is a listing of all the Catch and Release Artificial Lures Only waters listed by the NC Wildlife Department.  The following trout waters and their tributaries, except as noted, may be fished only with artificial lures having one single hook and all fish must be released.  No fish may be harvested or possessed while fishing these streams.  These streams are marked with purple and gold signs.

Ashe County

Big Horse Creek (Virginia state line to Mud Creek at SR 1363)

Unnamed tributary of Three Top Creek (game land portion)

Avery County

Wilson Creek (game land portion) * hiking is required form 1/2 mile to 3 miles depending on access trail, which are
a task in themselves to locate.  Remote stream and we all know what that means!!!!!

Buncombe County

Carter Creek (game land portion)

Burke County

Henry Fork (portion on South Mountains State Park)

Jackson County

Tuckasegee River (above the Clark property)

Flat Creek

McDowell County

Newberry Creek (game land portion) * stocked for years with brooks only, lots of them still there!

Wilkes County

Harris Creek (portion on Stone Mountain State Park)

Yancey County

Upper Creek *good mid summer fishing, lots of climbing.

Lower Creek *same as Upper Creek.
